GEPO technology uses photocatalytic oxidation reaction. You can see more about photocatalysis here. The photocatalytic oxidation reaction occurs on a special structural element. The filter consists of tens of thousands of millimeter quartz balls, baked together in a special way. Titanium dioxide is then applied to the internal and external surface of the filter using a patented technology. The requirements for a structural element are very strict:
- It cannot be made of organic material, since any organic substance is degraded by ultraviolet light.
- It must be able to pass ultraviolet, so it must be transparent.
- Basic requirement: having a small size it shall have a large surface for contact between catalyst and air.
We also have special requirements for the catalyst itself. TiO2 has a crystalline modification of anatase and contains a minimum amount of impurities. The particle size is about 40 nanometers. It is in this state that the catalyst is highly active and has the maximum surface for reaction.
Laboratory tested.

At the first stage, researchers evaluated the efficiency of air purification from molecular air pollutants (VOC).
At the second stage, the researchers evaluated the efficiency of air purification from micro-organisms (bacteria, viruses).
Stage 1: Tests for removal of model molecular air pollutants
The ability of to remove volatile organic compounds without accumulating them inside of the device has been tested.
The tests were carried out in a specialized hermetically sealed cubicle with a capacity of 10 cubic meters.
The concentration of the model organic pollutant was generated by the evaporation of an appropriate amount of liquid on the heater installed inside.
Stage 2: Microbiological tests
